Environmental challenges of Zaporozhye

Zaporozhye has been suffering from harmful emissions into the atmosphere for many years. Directly in the city and the surrounding area, 200 enterprises are registered that cause damage to air and water resources by their activities. In 2018, the city authorities purchased equipment for air monitoring "mobile laboratory", however, this does not solve the issue of pollution. Periodically, citizens gather for protest actions, this issue is actively discussed in social networks. On June 20, 2021, pharmaceutical formaldehyde emissions were recorded in the city. The state policy of Ukraine pays attention to environmental issues, but the lack of a mechanism for influencing the enterprise is not effective. Periodically, fines are imposed on the city's enterprises that go to the development of infrastructure facilities, but do not solve the environmental issue. In Zaporozhye, public activists, journalists, scientists and deputies United in a single environmental organization to strictly control the government's measures regarding the environment. The association will make its own proposals to improve the environmental situation, as well as monitor the effectiveness of draft decisions of the city council and the effectiveness of their implementation.
